The Princess and the Pea

                                        The princess and the pea

Once upon a time there was a prince who wanted to marry a princess; but she would have to be a real princess. He travelled all over the world to find one, but nowhere could he get what he wanted. There were princesses enough, but it was difficult to find out whether they were real ones. There was always something about them that was not as it should be. So he came home again and was sad, for he would have liked very much to have a real princess.
One evening a terrible storm came on; there was thunder and lightning, and the rain poured down in torrents. Suddenly a knocking was heard at the city gate, and the old king went to open it.
It was a princess standing out there in front of the gate. But, good gracious! what a sight the rain and the wind had made her look. The water ran down from her hair and clothes; it ran down into the toes of her shoes and out again at the heels. And yet she said that she was a real princess.
Well, we'll soon find that out, thought the old queen. But she said nothing, went into the bed-room, took all the bedding off the bedstead, and laid a pea on the bottom; then she took twenty mattresses and laid them on the pea, and then twenty eider-down beds on top of the mattresses.
On this the princess had to lie all night. In the morning she was asked how she had slept.
"Oh, very badly!" said she. "I have scarcely closed my eyes all night. Heaven only knows what was in the bed, but I was lying on something hard, so that I am black and blue all over my body. It's horrible!"
Now they knew that she was a real princess because she had felt the pea right through the twenty mattresses and the twenty eider-down beds.

                              A Friend in need

Once there lived two Friends in a village. They were very fast friends. One of them was very tall, beautiful and clever. The other was short. They promised to stand by each other through thick and thin.

One day they were travelling through a forest. When they raeched the middle of the forest, they saw a bear coming to them. They were filled with fear to see the bear. They were worried about their lives. The tall man was very clever and selfish. He,at once, climbed up a tree to save his life.He did not care for his friend. The other friend was perplexed but he thought of a trick. He had been told that a bear does not harm a dead person.

He,at once, lay downon the ground and held his breath. The bear came near him.He sniffed and took the man to be dead and went away. When the bear was out of the sight,he came down the tree.By way of joke ,he asked his friend what the bear had whisphered into his ear.

The friend replied that the bear advised him not to trust a false and selfish friend.Saying this,he bade good-bye to him and continued his journey alone.

The Fox and the Goat

                                      The Fox and the Goat

"Look before you leap" is well-known proverb. It means before doing anything,we should carefully judge the results of our action. Before we engage anything new,we should make careful preparation. If we do something in haste without thinking about it properly and carefully,we may meet unforeseen dangers and difficulties.

Once a fox fell into a shallow well.He cursed himself for his carelessness. He tried his best to come out of the well but he could not.He began to think about some means to get out of the well.Meanwhile ,a thirsty goat happened to come there.By chance, the goat peeped into the well and was suprised to see the fox there.

She said to him,"Hello uncle, what are u doing here"?The fox replied,"Dear nephew, the water of the well is very sweet and cold. Therefore,i daily come here to drink it.If u taste it,u will surely enjoy it very much.So come down and have a drink."The goat was very foolish. She,at once, jumped into the well. The fox at once got over the back of the goat and jumped out of the well. The goat could not come out of the well. Now the goat realized her folly.

She requested the fox to help her out.The fox said,"You are foolish. You should not have jumped into the well without thinking about how to come out of it."Now go on bleeting and your master will come to get you out."In the meantime, you may enjoy the sweet water of the well.He bade goodbye to the goat and ran away to the jungle. He left the goat in trouble.

                                                   The Dove and the Bee

"Kindness never goes unrewarded" is an often-quoted proverb. It means if we help others in their difficulties, they will help us in our difficulties. If we do good to others, they will do good to us.There is a famous story to illustrate the truth of this proverb.

one day a bee was very thirsty. It went to river to drink some water. But it was driven away by the waves.A dove was sitting in her nest. She saw that the bee was unable to fly and was about to drown. She took pity on the poor bee. She,at once, plucked a leaf and dropped it near the bee.

The bee somehow or the other succeeded in climbing over the leaf.It dried its wings in the sun and flew away. The bee thanked the dove for saving its life. They became friends.

After few days.the dove was sitting on the branch of a tree.A hunter happened to come there. He saw the dove.He loaded his gun to shoot her down.He had taken aim at the dove. The bee that was flying here and there happened to see all that. It,at once, flew towards the hunter and stung him on his hand. The hunter felt a jerk and missed his aim.

The dove flew away with the bang of the gun and saved her life. Thus she received the reward of her noble deed done to the bee.

The Farmer and the snake nature never changes

The Farmer and Snake Nature  Never changes

"Nature never changes"is a famous proverb. It simply means that if a person is good by nature,he will always be good. But if a person is bad by nature,he will always harm others.

It was winter. It was very cold in the morning. It was snowing and everything looked white.A farmer was returning from his fields. All of sudden,he saw snake lying along the path.

The snake was almost frozen on account of severe cold. The farmer thought that it would die soon in that intense cold.He took pity on it.He carried it home in basket.

After reaching home,he placed the snake near the fire. The farmer's children gathered around it.After a few moments, the snake got a new life because of the heat of the fire.It began to move about.Seeing the children,it rushed at one of them.It was its nature to sting,to do harm to others.

The farmer,at once, took a stick and hit the snake with it.He killed the snake before it could sting his child.

A bag of Gold

                                                              A bag of Gold

There is a famous proverb "As you sow,so shall you reap".It simply means that every person will receive what he pays.If a person commits wrong actions,he will have to face the consequences. If a person digs a pit for others,he himself may fall into it.

Once there were three bosom friends. They lived in a village. They always played and chatted together. However, all the three were very greedy. They were jobless. They decided to go to a city to find some job to earn their livelihood. One day, they set out on a journey to try their luck in a city.

They promised to stand by one another through thick and thin. They had to pass through a forest. While passing through the forest, all of a sudden ,they found a bag full of golden coins. They felt very happy. They sat down and started to count the coins. They decided to divide them equally among themselves. But each wished in his heart of heart to have all the coins himself. They were feeling very hungry. Therefore, they sent one of them to bring some food from the city.

On the way to the city, the man thought that he should have all the coins. So he decided to kill his two friends. He bought some poison and mixed it into the food of his other two friends. While in his absence, the other two friends planned to kill him and divide the coins between themselves equally. When he reached them with food, they killed him.

Then they sat and ate the poisoned food.soon after taking the food, they felt severe pain in their stomachs and died before dividing the coins.

Moral:

  1. As you sow,so shall you leap
  2. Selfishness is a vice.
