"Honesty is the best policy" is a well-known proverb. It means that honesty is always appreciated. No one like dishonest person.Everyone likes honest dealings in life.Honesty makes people trust you.The honest person is rewarded in whatever field he may be.
Once there lived a poor wood cutter in a village near a river. He was very honest and hard working. He used to cut wood from forest, sell it in the bazaar and earn money. He lived a very simple life.He was contented with his lot.One day he was cutting wood near the bank of a river. All of sudden, his ax slipped from his hand and fell into the deep water of the river.
He became very sad because he did not know how to swim.He began to to weep over his loss of ax.He looked upward and prayed to God.Suddenly ,an angel appeared there and asked him why he was weeping. The wood cutter told the angel that his ax had fallen into the river. It was only source of his income. The angel took pity on him.He jumped into the river and brought out a gold ax.
He gave this gold ax to the woodcutter. The woodcutter refused to take it and said it is not his ax.The angel dived again and into the water and brought out a silver ax.He gave it to the woodcutter but he again refused to take it.He told the angel that his ax was made neither of gold nor of silver. His ax was made of iron. The angle once again dived into the water and brought out an iron ax.
Moral:
- Honesty is the best policy
- Honesty never goes unrewarded
